Hi Class,
Is Miss Sidley from Stephen King's "Suffer the Little Children" crazy or are the children possessed by evil forces? Please be ready to discuss in small groups tomorrow as it will help you with an assignment! Thanks!

I think it's really the children that are possessed, because first off, Robert said: "Tomorrow, something bad will happen." And the next day, bad things did happen. Also, Buddy Jakens saw the children act like they have some secret, although it's unlikely for children with mental disabilities to do that with eachother.
I think that the children might have been possessed with some evil force because the students did not act normal. For example, the students are normaly afraid of Miss Sidley, but in the bathroom, two girls were talking about her when they knew she was in the bathroom. When she was in the insane asylum the children the children there were possessed aswell, even Buddy Jenkins noticed something off about the children.
I beleive that the children have been possesed by some creepy evil forces. The children who were normally afraid of her were not anymore and the kids that she was put in the simulation with gave her the same sort of feeling or look and even the doctor, Buddy Jenkins, began to notice and to realize what the situation was.
i believe that it is the children that are possesed because miss sidley has the reputaton of someone you wouldnt want to get on the bad side of, but the kids arent scared of her and all the rest of them re still afraid of her them something had to have come over them because you cant just not be scared of something anymore, and near the end of the story once she kills herself buddy starts t notice that the children are not regular kids.
At first i thought Miss Sidley was crazy, because since she was such a rude teacher,i thought she was just imagining the students finally reacting about it. But once all the children turned into freaks, and the way they talked to her, i don't think Miss Sidley can make that up in her head only, because it would've happened before in the story. And the doctor noticed something at the end aswell. Therefore, i believe the students are possessed with dark spirits.
I think that the children are possessed by evil forces. Ms. Sidley, at first i thought was crazy but as we neared the end of the story where she is in the mental home, the doctor Buddy Jenkins is also who is attached to the little children. which makes me think that the children are the evil ones.
I actually agree with Roxy because in the beginning of the story you get a feel of her terrible life. She has a terrible back problem, and she doesn't seem to like having to deal with kids everyday of her life. The one thing that changed my mind about the fact that she only hates the kids was when Robert started saying that there were going to be bad things happening the next day. The fact that he was giving weird and creepy facial expressions can only mean that there is something going on with the boy. Also Robert was constantly asking her if she wanted him to change, that only meant that this is not the real nature of a young boy. Buddy Jenkins in the end started staring at the kids and observing them as if they were pointing him in some sort of trance. I definitely believe that Robert, the kids in the washroom, and the kids in the mental institute are possessed with evil and filled with darkness.
I think that the children were possessed by evil forces. At first i thought Miss Sidley was a bit crazy, but as the story went further, i started to think otherwise. What made me think that the children were possessed, and Miss Sidley wasn't crazy, was when the psychiatrist started to stare at the children. This made me believe that Miss Sidley wasn't the only one seeing the children change.
I believe that the children were taken over by something strange and evil. I don't think that Miss Sidley could have made all of this up in her mind. At the end of the story, when Buddy Jenkins starts to watch the children to try and see what Miss Sidley saw, I believe that he did see them change. And if he did, then it would prove that Miss Sidley was not imagining it all.
In my opinion, the children were possessed by evil spirits. For example, Robert says, " Sometimes he runs arround... it itches. He wants me to let him out." My interpretation of this sentence is that an evil spirit has taken over Robert's body and he is trapped. In the end of the story, Buddy Jenkins is unable to take his eyes off the kids which might indicate that he sees the strange behaviour from the kids in the nursery.
I personally think that Miss Sidley is mentally ill. Through her actions you can see how she acts mental. I don't think that the children are possessed. She is the only one who imagines them as little monsters who SEEM possessed but in reality it's all in her head. She even admits it herself when she shot Robert. After she shot him she realized that he actually wasn't the so called creature. If she were mentally healthy she would have dealt with the children like an adult and not by killing them. The only reason why the children seem "possessed" is because they're simply just trying to mess with Miss Sidley considering the fact that she was rude to them. If she lost the attitude the children wouldn't have acted immature by scaring her. Overall, it was all in her head...after all this IS a fully grown woman who is afraid of third graders and thinks that they're faces become distorted with holes that take over their eyes, nose, and mouth, and on top of all that she was sent to a mental institute.
I believe that the children are evil, and possessed by evil forces. Someone as innocent as Miss Sidley truly saw evil forces come out of these children. In the beginning of the story, Miss Sidley displayed a negative character, because how she was strict on the children, and was willing to punish anyone at the slightest moment. Therefore, the children in a way fear her. But, when she had gone to the washroom, the two girls did not fear her, as they had gone out of their way to say rude, mean things about Miss Sidley. It seemed as the fear was driven out of the children, and in its' place, evil came upon them. Miss Sidley had seen this possesion of the evil forces right away in those girls, the same thing she saw in Robert. In conclusion, the children are posessed with evil forces, because it wasn't Miss Sidley who alone saw it, but it was the doctor, Buddy Jenkins as well.
I believe that Miss Sidley was not hallucinating but the children were indeed freakishly grotesque monsters. Stephen King is an author known for his gore and twists plots. We see in most stephen king novels that there is this gruesome act of violence or creature that tries to kill an innocent town - like the mist - this shows me that maybe indeed the children were monsters. Also , miss sidley had never really shown much fear towards the student before, as if she ran the school. She is said to be the great Miss Sidley who had total control of her classroom. After Robert , on the other-hand, we see she loses her whole persona as that mean teacher. The way the author describes in such detail the horror that is the change of robert, make me think that poor Miss Sidley must have see a horrific sight. One woman with years full of experience as a teacher does not lose it all in a week. Miss sidley did not change it was her students who had.
I believe that the children were in fact possessed. I think this because, how would she be able to make up such scenes in her head? From what is given in the story she seems to be a well respected elderly teacher. Then, all of a sudden the students have no respect for her? I don't believe she could make all of that up. The children were slowyling becoming monsters - each one of them. Robert was the one who was most comfortable with saying what he was while the others stayed quiet. When miss Sidley knew that some of them were monsters it drove her over the edge because no one would believe what she saw. So yes, the childrens were the ones who were demons.
Miss Sidley is indubitably mentally ill. Her Obsessive compulsive actions about monitoring the behavior of the children is evident in the very first paragraph of the story. The children are acting as children throughout the story, all suggestively evil things said by them are obviously hallucinations brought on by insanity and paranoia.Even if the children were possessed by demons, they could not allow Miss Sidley to envision these evil actions unless the actual demon were inside her. Even after Miss Sidley has killed 13 out of the 14 "possessed" children, the demons continue to follow her and possess children near her? I think not. Especially the mind of a mentally retarded kid, which is exponentially different than the mind of an everyday kid, it would prove difficult for a demon to posses one so readily. Rather, insanity stays with you in your head, wherever you go. As Miss Sidley had proclaimed that the children were demons, the church would definitely investigate the murder of 13 children in the name of demonic powers, only to conclude that she was indeed insane.

The children are posessed by demons. miss sidley has been a teacher for at least 12 years that we know of and shes has had a regular class of students untill now. miss sidley has been fine up untill she noticed the demon within robert
I think that miss Sidney was just crazy, and was hearing all of it in her head. With her old age and the amount of pills she must be taking for her back, she was most likely hallucinating and was letter her superstition get the best of her. At the end of the story when she's in the asylum and with all the children, none of them "change" and Buddy Jenkins didn't see them act strange. Buddy continued to watch the children after to figure out what was wrong with her, why she'd killed all those innocent children and then asked to be removed from the ones in the asylum.
I believe that the children are somehow controlled by another force of some kind. Although Miss Sidley may be a little delusional because of her old age, the children acted in a very odd manner - no where near the average third grader. An example of this was mainly Robert, he answered oddly and said many creepy things. One example was when he said "something bad would happen tommorow" and in fact did occur.
