From my point of view, i think that uncle Nathan is totally a villain. The word villain means: a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime. Therefore, uncle Naathan is a villain since he confessed that he saw both of the girls, and he chose Delia-the one that he loved at the begining-over Eunice to save her.
Uncle Nathan is a villain, which is a character in a play or novel who constitutes an important evil agency in a plot. He could've been upfront with Eunice by telling her that he is in love with someone else. But at the end of the story, Uncle Nathan chose to save Delia over Eunice and an innocent human being is now dead.
I actually dont think uncle nathan is a villian. I can support this by saying that what happens if you put yourself into nathan's shoes. If you had two people hanging on a piece of ice and love both of the victims, but you love one more than the other, which one would you go for. Well in this instance is was coincidence that two people that he loved were in danger. im pretty sure he would have saved both if he had to. I completly disagre with the fact that he is a villain because he would have wanted to save both, and was left with one of the hardest choices he has to make in a very short period of time.
Uncle Nathan can be seen as a victim since he has suffered from the choices he made when he was younger. For example in his story of him destroying the stone man, he regrets not standing up to his father for what he believed in which was not to tear down the stone man. Although in the story of the two sisters, he did what he wanted by saving Delia and not Eunice, Uncle Nathan had to live with the guilt of telling the two sisters to go skating down the lake. If he had not told them to go they probably would not have fallen into the water and he would not have had to choose between Delia and Eunice. As a result of his choice Eunice died and he was left with that guilt.
I think Uncle Nathan is a victim he stood up for what he wanted. The right thing was to save Eunice, but he saved Delia instead because he's finally doing what he wants, not what's expected. I think because of the decision to follow his will, he ended up feeling guilty to tell the girls to go skating, and having one die. Therefore, I think it's because he did what HE wanted, then had to live with the guilt that makes him a victim.
I think that Uncle Nathan was the victim-someone who has suffered as a result of unpleasant circumstances-in the story, because even though it was his decision to save the one he loves but can not have, he still suffered the loss of Eunice, and also Delia since she moved away after the accident. Since there was no chance that Nathan could save both women, he made a quick decision to choose the one that he loves and has to live with the decision of letting Eunice die.
he is a villain because he was selfish and killed enuice in order to have delia
Uncle Nathan, in my opinion, was a victim in the story. When he had to make a decision whether to save Eunice or Delia, he was under a lot of pressure. He had to quickly choose which girl he should save, and he chose to save who he truly loved.
Uncle Nathan is a vitim, which is a person who is decieved or cheated as by their own emotions or ignorance. This is because he had to choose whether to save Eunice or Delia, his fiance or the one he truly loves. And Nathan choose to save Delia, the one he loved the most. The reason he had to choose between them was his own fault, he was the one that told them to go for a skate, and that resulted in Eunice's death. But even though he saved Delia's life, she moved away, so he was left to suffer alone.
i dont think uncle nathan is a villain, but he's not victim either. He's not a villain because he could only save one and picked the one he loved more. He's not a victim because he did choose to let his wife die, so the loss is his fault.
i think uncle nathan is a villian because even though he was young when he made the chaoices, he still made them. if he regrets the decisions that he made then he should have just saved his wife instead of saving the one he loved more.
I believe that Nathan is indeed a victim in a way. He is a victim because though committing an act of somewhat murder, he was a victim of love and a choice between 2 loves. In a way nathan was only dealt with a choice that not many people could have made given the circumstances. One can not be called a villain if in the end he saved at least somebody. Though the choice may not have been what the readers expected, nathan can not be labeled as a villain. He is but a victim of circumstance
I don't think Uncle Nathan is a villain, but he isn't a victim either. The reason that the two sisters were in that situation (falling through the ice) in the first place was because they were in an argument over Nathan, and he told them to go skate off together and to try to resolve the issue. If Nathan was truthful about his feelings before, they never would have gotten into an argument and they wouldn't have skated off together to try to talk about it, so they wouldn't have fallen into the icy water. It IS Nathan's fault for not being honest about which one he loves more, and therefore interfering in the sisters' relationship.
Uncle Nathan shouldn't have got engaged if he wasn't positive that he love Eunice. He must have known that he has some feelings for Delia, so he should have figured it out first.
But Uncle Nathan does question his decision for the rest of his life, and he always feels guilty about it. He obviously didn't know that the ice was going to brake so I don't think he is a villain.
I believe that Uncle Nathan is a victim. A victim is a person who is deceived or cheated as by their own emotions or ignorance. Uncle Nathan is a victim because all his life he has done what was expected of him and now when he does the unexpected thing, the thing that he really wants the unforeseeable happens.
In my opinion Uncle Nathan is a victim. The reason i think this is because he didn't want Eunice to die, nore Delia. If he tried to save both the ice would've cracked, so saving Delia was actually a heroic thing to do. Just because he could tell which was which and chose Delia doesn't make him a villain. He did what he wanted, and not what he should've done.
I think that Uncle Nathan is a victim. This is because I believe he is the one having to suffer from letting Eunice die. Although saved Delia, he still has to live with the regret and guilt of letting his fiance, Eunice, die. I personally think that, when he had saved Delia, he automatically thought that their romance would become public. But, the oppposite occurred, as Delia fled town. Uncle Nathan is a victim because of this. He has to live day in and day out with the guilt, and also, live without knowing tat Delia had left him.
I think Nathan was a victim in this case. He was a victim because he was a given a hard choice to make in chosing the woman he truly loved. When he chose Delia he had to live with the guilt of knowing that Eunice had died because he made that choice and Delia - the woman who he loves will never be his. He is bearing tons of guilt on his shoulders and he always will.
I believe that Nathan is not a villian but a victim. The real villian I believe was his love for Delia. This blinded him from making what would be the "expected" thing for him to do which would be to save Eunice. If he had not saved Delia he would be haunted with the guilt of not saving his one true love. In a way, I also believe that by not saving Eunice, Nathan has also stopped him from being with someone he was not genuinely in love with.
I think uncle Nathan is a victim, he did what his heart told him to and he decided that he really didn't love Eunice and that Delia was the right person to save. Either way uncle Nathan saved a living being and in any situation this act would not be considered the act of a villain.
Uncle Nathen is totally not a villan. All or most of the answers above are wrong even if its a opinion because Uncle Nathen was on a piece of ice that would have broken anytime if he leaned to grab both of them. The actuall answer is this that becuase Delia was not as heavy as Eunice. Eunice was so heavy that when both sisters were skating on the ice, the ice broken because it couldn' handle the weight. Thats why if Nathen tried to save Eunice then he him self wouyld have died.
